Lowest-data classroom path

Use the Labs without student accounts.

A practical setup for short classroom practice that minimizes identifying information and keeps progress on the device when possible.

Check what each Lab stores
Use this path first: public Word Lab practice, Math Lab, and Life Lab all work without creating a student account. Optional Word Lab teacher, roster, attendance, assignment, and portal features are a separate approval decision because they store server records.

Before students begin

Step 1

Choose one public activity

Open the exact Lab/activity yourself, confirm it works on the school network, and decide the learning goal. Avoid optional sign-in or teacher-record features unless they are approved.

Step 2

Set the privacy rule

Tell students: “Do not type your full name or any private information. If the page asks for a label, use the code I give you.”

Step 3

Use neutral labels only

If Math Lab needs a label for a local report, use initials or a district-approved classroom code. Do not encode birth date, school ID, disability, program, or grade into the label.

Step 4

Prepare shared devices

Use separate managed browser profiles or a private-browsing session when district policy permits. Close unrelated tabs, disable password autofill for the session, and keep devices from displaying another student’s prior report.

During practice

Keep responses instructional

Students should answer the activity—not type personal histories, diagnoses, family information, or details that identify another person.

Protect the display

Do not project an individual’s progress, code, assignment link, or report. Use private teacher check-ins and neutral language.

Use built-in access supports

Offer larger text, contrast, reduced motion/choices, read-aloud, manipulatives, scratch paper, or adult modeling as appropriate. Follow all required accommodations.

Keep recording on device

Word Lab Fluency Studio recordings stay on the current device for immediate playback and disappear after refresh/close. Still use headphones and a quiet location when privacy matters.

Avoid public links with identity

If an approved teacher sends an assignment/custom-practice link, keep the title non-identifying and share it only with the intended students.

Do not create shadow records

Do not copy scores, notes, or screenshots into unapproved documents, personal email, messaging apps, or public classroom boards.

After each student or group

Shared-device reset

  1. Finish or print only what the district permits.
  2. Close the activity and any generated report.
  3. Use the Lab’s clear-data control for Math or Life Lab when changing users.
  4. Clear site data/private session if required by local procedure.
  5. Confirm the next student cannot see the prior label, plan, progress, or report.

Handle paper and exports carefully

  • Review before printing.
  • Collect pages immediately.
  • Store only in an approved location.
  • Do not photograph or text student reports.
  • Destroy or delete according to district record rules.
